October 21, 2014: Applications are now being accepted for the 2014-15 Graduate Student Research Fellowships Program from the University Research Council. The details for applying are on-line at: http://research.uc.edu/urcapply/.

Purpose:  This program provides summer stipend support to outstanding graduate students. Stipend support of $3,000 will be provided.  The number of applications submitted through each graduate program is limited, and there is a requirement for a pre-review by the department/college of the applicant. Applications will only be accepted from the graduate programs. Students may not apply directly.

Eligibility: All graduate students from UC are eligible for this award. Fellowships are limited to graduate students who are engaged for a total of 340 hours May – August 2015 on their research. The proposed research should be that of the student, related to his/her thesis or dissertation research.  Graduate students who have received URC funding previously are not eligible.

Funding Criteria and Priorities:  Fellowships are competitive and awarded based on the scholarly merit of the proposed activities and on the qualifications of the student. The review committee ranks candidates according to the quality of the proposal prepared by the student, number of presentations (talks, posters, and papers), and grades.  The URC fellowship award may be supplemented by other funding that supports the proposed project (e.g., funds for supplies or essential travel may be obtained from other sources).

Awards:  Awards are limited to $3,000.

Due date: Thursday, December 18, 2014 by 5:00 p.m.

Note: Postdoctoral Fellow Research Grants are not available during this academic year.

Purpose:  This program provides summer stipend support to outstanding undergraduate students. Stipend support of $1,500 will be provided.  Research includes not only intellectual activity designed to expand knowledge and understanding of people and their environment but also activities in the creative and performing arts aimed at interpreting and enhancing that environment.

Eligibility: All undergraduate students from UC who will not have graduated by May 2015 are eligible for this award.  Fellowships are limited to undergraduate students who are engaged for a total of 170 hours May – August 2015 on their research.  Students who have been accepted into other UC-sponsored summer undergraduate programs are eligible to apply for this fellowship.  If awarded, the student will receive the higher of the two stipends and the URC funds will be used for all or part of that support. Undergraduate students who have received URC funding previously are not eligible.

Funding Criteria and Priorities: Proposals will be evaluated primarily based on the scholarly merit of the proposed activities and secondarily on grades and other achievements.  Fellowships are competitive and each one is based on a written proposal prepared by the student.  The Undergraduate Student Research Fellowship Program award may be supplemented by other funding that supports the proposed project (e.g., funds for supplies or essential travel may be obtained from other sources).

Awards:  $1,500 is available for stipend support (payable in May 2015).
