Position Descriptions: The University of Cincinnati, a top-25 public research university, is strategically concentrating research efforts on five primary pathways representing our strongest programs and recognized leadership in interdisciplinary research and education: environment, information science, manufacturing and services, sensing, and health.  These pathways represent focus areas for broad-based cross disciplinary research (interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary) involving multiple units and colleges at the University of Cincinnati to develop specific expertise and international recognition as true leaders.  As many as ten faculty positions are available within the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) in the following interdisciplinary thrust areas:

Successful candidates will have a primary appointment in one of the six departments in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, and potential secondary appointments in other programs within and outside of the College.  The Departments in the College are:

  • Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics 
  • Department of Biomedical, Chemical, and Environmental Engineering
  • Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management
  • Department of Electrical Engineering and Computing Systems
  • Department of Engineering Education
  • Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering

Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in all areas of Engineering, or related fields and active participation/interest in research and scholarship. 

Candidates for tenured and tenure-track positions at the assistant, associate professor and full professor levels will be considered.  Strong interest in interdisciplinary activities and research collaborations are encouraged.  Successful candidates will have distinguished academic records, will develop strong, independent research programs, and will teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and mentoring skills and an established independent, interdisciplinary or translational research program.  Evidence of strong qualifications will include extramural funding as principal investigator, publications in peer-reviewed journals, teaching experience that includes course development, and commitment to the principles of equity, access and affirmative action.  Depending on circumstances, entry-level educators who have demonstrated potential for excellence in research and commitment to excellence in teaching will be considered.
