Simulation and Improvement of a Flapping-Wing Micro Air Vehicle
Students will expand an existing simulation of an insect-like flapping-wing micro air vehicle. The simulation is used to test machine-learning based controller adaptation in vehicles like that pictured below. Depending on student preparedness and desire, one or more of the following tasks may be attempted.
- Improvement to the wing-force generation model
- Experimentation with alternative machine-learning methods for controller generation
- Measurement and characterization of force generation of the physical vehicle
Student will be provided with:
- Extensively commented and documented simulation code written in C
- Basic instruction on the vehicle’s operation and control
- Basic instruction on one core machine learning model
- As available, access to the physical vehicle or data sets collected from it
