Nora Honken joined the Department of Engineering Education in 2014. She received her BS in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1987. She earned her MS in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University and her PhD in Education Leadership, Foundations and Human Development from the University of Louisville in 1993 and 2014, respectively. She has held positions in engineering and management for Axxess Technologies, Varian, Amoco and Corning, and has taught in industry as well as at the university level. She received the ASEE Freshmen Division Best Presentation Award, Fellow for 2012 National Data Institute on the datasets of the National Center for Education Statistic (NCES), and the University of Louisville Strategic Plan Tuition Award.
Professor Honken’s primary research interests are in engineering student performance, retention, and structuring the engineering curriculum to help students develop nontechnical skills necessary for success in the workplace.
