The UC program provides a unique educational opportunity for US graduate students pursuing a doctoral degree in engineering, the sciences, medicine, or pharmacy with a focus on Membrane Science and Technology for Biological Applications. The program is supported by a five-year renewable grant from the National Science Foundation. The first cohort of 6 IGERT students began their graduate studies in the 2005-2006 academic year and the second cohort of 6 in the current 2006-2007 academic year. Seven students were admitted for the 2007-2008 program, our final recruiting period. The IGERT consists of an annual stipend of $30,000 for up to three years. The award also provides tuition and some graduate fees.
