Engineering Laboratory

Located at the Victory Parkway Campus of the University of Cincinnati, STEEL has no lack of space in which to complete their compelling projects. With the University of Cincinnati Research Institute and Advanced Manufacturing Center just one building over, the laboratories are able to quickly collaborate with other experts in their fields.

Members of the STEEL group have access to:

-  Software to model and design 3D systems:

  • Simplify3D, Matlab, Magics, SimpleWare, SolidWorks, SolidEdge

-  Additive manufacturing machines to create rapid prototypes and patient specific implants:

  • Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM):
  1. Dual extrusion FlashForge Dreamer
  2. Ultimaker 2.0
  • State-of-the-art laser sintering:
  1.  EOS Formiga P110
  2. Sintratec laser sintering machine

-  Mechanical Testing System (MTS) to analyze mechanical strength of materials

-  Cell and tissue culture spaces complete with sterile culture hoods, incubators, autoclaves, freezers, and anything else one would need to do in vitro experiments and ex vivo tissue processing to create novel materials

- Histology and molecular analysis microscopes and tools
