Engineering Education Majors & Programs

The University of Cincinnati’s graduate degrees in Engineering Education prepare students for careers across academia, industry, and government through a flexible, student-driven curriculum. In collaboration with their advisor, students co-design a plan of study that aligns with their individual goals and professional interests.

Graduate experiences include a small core of required courses within the department, complemented by opportunities for workplace-based learning that may substitute for a portion of coursework. Students also select electives from a broad range of areas, including educational theory, data analytics, business, management, and different engineering disciplines, allowing them to tailor their academic experience to their desired career pathway.

We offer two graduate degrees in our department. 

• Master of Science (MS) — Engineering Education
• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) — Engineering Education

For those enrolled in an engineering program in the college who are teaching assistants or looking for academic careers can supplement their programs with one or both of our microcredentials that can be completed in a single semester.

• Microcredential in Engineering Education Research

• Pre-Engineering Program

While we do not currently offer a formal undergraduate degree in Engineering Education, there are still many opportunities for undergraduate students to get involved. Our faculty provide both paid and course-based research experiences, including options such as ENED 5080, a weighted GPA course focused on research engagement.

Students can also pursue research co-op opportunities with our faculty through programs such as UHP Discover, the Undergraduate Research Co-op Fellowship, and UPRISE. We encourage students to reach out to faculty whose research aligns with their interests or to inquire more broadly about available opportunities to get involved in engineering education research.
