International Research Co-op at University of Cape Coast

University of Cincinnati undergraduate students can travel to Ghana for an immersive eight-week research co-op experience at the University of Cape Coast. Participants will earn co-op credit and BoK credit. 

Overview

Each student receives support worth approximately $10,000 which includes: A stipend of $600/week, a $1,000 scholarship from UC International, free on-campus housing and meals, free airfare, cultural tours, visa fee, Yellow Fever vaccination, and conference participation.

This international co-op experience is available for UC students who are eligible for co-op in the fall semester. Participants must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S. to qualify for this program.

Details and Application

  • Applications are due January 18, 2026.
  • Online co-op preparation between March 2026 and April 2026. Students could earn BoK credits (3 credits) toward graduation. 
  • Co-op in Ghana in Summer 2026. Students could obtain co-op credit.

Program Provider

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is a strategic partner of the University of Cincinnati. UCC is ranked best university in West Africa, and third best university in Africa. See UCC’s website. The University of Cape Coast is located in the historic town of Cape Coast in Ghana. The campus has a rare seafront and sits on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

UC students will work collaboratively with students from University of Cape Coast, under the supervision of faculty at UCC, and coordination of faculty at UC.

Through this program, students will participate in conducting education outreach, develop important professional skills like critical thinking, problem solving, cultural intelligence, communication, and empathy, as well as develop a professional, global network of connections.

  • Low-cost technique to immobilize heavy metals and recycling plastic waste in coastal areas
