International Research Co-op at University of Cape Coast
University of Cincinnati undergraduate students can travel to Ghana for an immersive eight-week research co-op experience at the University of Cape Coast. Participants will earn co-op credit and BoK credit.
Immersive Academic, Workplace, & Cultural Experiences
Through this program, students will participate in conducting education outreach, develop important professional skills like critical thinking, problem solving, cultural intelligence, communication, and empathy, as well as develop a professional, global network of connections.

- Soilless fresh/brackish water solar-powered AI-controlled aquaponics system
- Low-cost technique to immobilize heavy metals and recycling plastic waste in coastal areas
- AI-based agric-product price monitoring systems

- Ghana Water Company Quality Control Labs
- Zeal Environmental Technologies Limited
Cultural Experiences
Students will have the opportunity to be engaged in the Ghanaian culture and country.
In Cape Coast, students can experience:
- Elmina Castle
- Kakum National Park
- Cultural Dance Classes
- Fetu Afahye festival
- Odwira Festival
- Ghanaian Culinary art
In Accra, students can experience:
- Kwame Nkrumah Museleum
- Art Center
In Kumasi, students can experience:
- Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom
- Bonwire Kente Weaving Center
In Takoredi, students can experience:
- Nzulezu Stilt Settlement
Each student receives support worth approximately $10,000 which includes: A stipend of $600/week, a $1,000 scholarship from UC International, free on-campus housing, meals, and free airfare, cultural tours, and visas.
