Sport Administration

Successful sport administration graduates must have technical sport business skills as well as conceptual skills to see the big picture. Additionally, a successful sport manager must have a high level of interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive relationships with an array of constituents. Sport administrators also require excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and motivate others.

Sport management success depends upon critical thinking and creative problem solving with an emphasis on teamwork. However, the most important factor to success is a love of sports.

There are approximately five million people working in sport-related occupations. Graduates are prepared for a variety of positions in professional sports, college athletics, and high school athletic administration. Career opportunities exist within sport associations and sporting events as well as the management of sport venues. Other opportunities include the field of health and fitness, recreation, and within the sporting goods industry.

Honors Program

The University of Cincinnati Honors Scholars Program offers small, interactive classes that allow you to receive personalized instruction and to learn more effectively. Certificate programs allow you to explore topics such as global studies and leadership in greater depth. The Honors Scholars Program enriches the educational experience of top students through coursework and out-of-class experiences. Special topics courses allow honors students to broaden their intellectual horizons regardless of the discipline in which they are majoring. Students may also earn honors credit through experiential learning. 

Study Abroad Opportunities

Students can study abroad anywhere in the world on any type of program as long as they work with UC International Programs, get approval from their academic advisor and bring back a transcript with passing grades from an accredited institution. There are four types of study abroad experiences: UC programs, exchange programs, program providers, and direct enrollment.

The sport administration program includes a significant number of “free electives” to provide the student with the flexibility to pursue a business minor, learn a foreign language, or study an area of interest.
 
Students will have the advantage of sport coursework taught by faculty who have engaged in significant research in the field of sport and also by faculty who are currently working within the sport industry.
 
Practicum is part-time experience involving observing and providing assistance to a sport management professional. This experience provides students the opportunity to make contacts within the sport industry and begin building a resume. The internship is full-time work experience in which sport management practices are applied and students demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking, effective communication, knowledge integration, and social responsibility. The practicum and internship experience will significantly increase employment opportunities for students.
 
The sport administration student group, Society of Sport Leaders, provides students with the opportunity to get involved and associate with fellow students interested in sport.

In order to graduate from the UC College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, a student must:

• Complete all required course work and program requirements.
• Obtain at least a 2.0 university grade point average.
• Be in good academic standing; that is, not on academic or disciplinary probation or suspension.
• Meet the college's residency requirement of 30 semester credit hours.
• File formal application for the degree by the posted semester of graduation deadline.

Admission to this program is generally available for students transferring to the University of Cincinnati if they were admissible directly from high school and have a 2.25 cumulative GPA (all prior institutions combined).

Students who were NOT admissible directly from high school must have:

• 24 semester (36 quarter) hours earned
• at least a 2.25 cumulative GPA (all prior institutions combined)
